About
Our Mission
Wave Conscious combines my passion for swimming and teaching, together with my personal connection to both cultures of the US and China. I have centered my project around swimming and the problem of how cultural differences may affect how young girls are treated. I have also lived in both countries, so I have a deep understanding and personal experience with what is “normal” in the different places. I also hope to use teaching as a solution, both online and in person.
I aim to create safer, more informed sporting environments for all young athletes who may experience abuse or sexual assault. I also focus on Asian female swimmers by addressing cultural barriers to consent, autonomy, and boundary-setting they may have in the US. The project will educate athletes to recognize unsafe behaviors, both overt and subtle, and empower them to speak up, seek support, and understand their rights. This project will also provide needed legal or mental support, as well as a platform to connect victims, learners and those eager to help the cause.
